KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian Genomics Resource Centre Bhd (MGRC) plans to work out with John Innes Centre (JIC) in the UK in the field of functional genomics to tap Malaysia's rich biodiversity.
MGRC had on Wednesday, Feb 23 signed a collaboration agreement with JIC's trading subsidiary John Innes Enterprises Ltd which carries out fundamental and strategic research on plants and microbes.
'The collaboration will provide direct access for scientists from Malaysian universities and organisations to work together with JIC and MGRC in the field of functional genomics to help realise the potential of Malaysia's rich biodiversity,' it said.
MGRC said many plant and microbial compounds have biological activity which can be used in the discovery and development of pharmaceuticals, novel foods and as active ingredients for industry bioTECHNOLOGY [].
