Sabah BN: Casino plan baseless

TUARAN: Barisan Nasional (BN) secretary Datuk Abdul Rahman Dahlan described the speculation, that the government might consider allowing a casino development in Sabah, as baseless and a lie, saying not a word was mentioned about it.

"I was there (during the Economic Transformation Programme (ETP) open day) and there was no mention of any casino development in Sabah. Not even a word on it.

"I was therefore taken by surprise by the report on the purported casino development in Sabah," he told reporters at the Aidilfitri open house hosted by the state Local Government and Housing Minister, Datuk Hajiji Mohd Noor, here on Saturday, Sept 25.

He was asked to comment on a report by The Malaysian Insider news portal that a proposed 200-hectare integrated resort was unveiled at the ETP open day, and that the option to build a casino was "on the table".

Abdul Rahman also called for an investigation into the matter, saying the speculation bordered on "stock manipulation".

KARAMBUNAI CORP BHD [] shares surged from 5.5 sen on Wednesday to close at 18 sen on Friday following excitement over the possibility of the company getting a licence to operate a casino licence as part of its integrated resort operations in Sabah.

Karambunai Corp issued a statement to Bursa Malaysia on Friday, denying that it had submitted plans to develop casino at its resort. - Bernama
