MAS unit Malaysian Aerospace Engineering, Sabena Technics in repair services

SUBANG: MALAYSIAN AIRLINE SYSTEM BHD [] unit Malaysian Aerospace Engineering Sdn Bhd (MAE) and Sabena Technics SA are teaming up to specialise in aircraft component repair and overhaul services in Malaysia.

The JV will offer avionics, hydraulics, electromechanical systems, fuel systems, engine and pneumatic components for B737 New Generation, A320 and ATR aircraft types.

MAE said on Tuesday, Sept 28 its managing director Mohd Roslan Ismail and Sabena Technics chief executive officer Christophe Bernardini inked the MoU to pave the way for the setting up of the JV company which is expected to be operational by the end of 2011.

Roslan said MAE was already in talks with other airlines and was targeting for some 200 aircraft to be sent to the JV company when it is operational next year.

'The JV company will also offer services for current generation aircraft, the A330 and B737 to Malaysia Airlines. This will enable us to reduce third party repair and logistic costs, improve turn-around time and inventory management.

'Sabena Technics has committed to TECHNOLOGY [] and expertise transfer. This collaboration complements MAE's growth plans which include developing In-house capabilities through strategic partnerships. This will also contribute towards the nation's aim of turning Subang into an MRO hub,' he said.

Bernadini said Sabena Technics was proud to become a partner of a leading Asia Pacific airline and to expand its MRO services in the region.

'This project is a perfect match with our international development strategy. We look forward to making it a success,' he said.
