KUALA LUMPUR:'' Share prices on Bursa Malaysia ended firmer on Monday, Sept 27 with the FBM KLCI'' up 0.9% in line with regional markets, dealers said.
There was some nibbling of finance and PLANTATION []-related stocks as strong gains on Wall Street last Friday helped spur buying today on the local bourse.
The FBM KLCI closed 13.52 points higher a 1,464.71, led by gains registered by CIMB Group, Maybank and IOI Corporation.
The key index moved within a narrow range of 1,456.30 and 1,467.18 points'' throughout the day, after opening 7.54 points higher at 1,458.73.
The FBM Emas Index surged 80.56 points to 9,805.56, the FBM 100 Index climbed 83.16 points to 9,587.55 and the FBM Ace Index added 18.28 points to 3,866.94.
The Finance Index shot up 140.65 points to 13,316.12, the Plantation Index increased 49.93 points to 6,784.80 and the INDUSTRIAL INDEX [] gained 18.67 points to 2,800.63.
Gainers beat losers 469 to 292 while 276 counters were unchanged, 308 untraded and 30 others were suspended.'' Overall turnover stood at 1.158 billion shares, worth RM1.623 billion, up from last Friday's 1.727 billion shares worth RM1.531 billion.
Karambunai was the top active counter with 157.517 million shares traded.
The company, which announced recently that it did not submit any official proposal about an integrated resort in Sabah, saw its share decline five sen to 13 sen.
Other actives, SAAG Consolidated and Asian Pac Holdings eased half-a-sen each to 8.5 sen and 11.5 sen, respectively, while Genting Malaysia-CL advanced half-a-sen to 19 sen and Talam Corporation was unchanged at 10 sen.
Heavyweights, CIMB Group gained 16 sen to RM8.25, Maybank added 13 sen to RM8.71 and IOI Corporation advanced nine sen to RM5.55.
EONCap rose one sen to close at RM7.09 after 97 per cent of its shareholders'' voted for the proposed sale of its entire assets and liabilities to HONG LEONG BANK BHD [] for RM5.06 billion, cash, at an extraordinary general meeting here today.
