Petronas Chemicals appoints Dr Abd Hapiz as president/CEO

KUALA LUMPUR: Petronas Chemicals Group Bhd (PCG) has appointed Dr Abd Hapiz Abdullah as its new executive director and president/chief executive officer with effect from May 1, 2011.

Dr Abd Hapiz will succeed Datuk Tengku Mahamad Tengku Mahamut, the current president/chief executive officer.

In a statement Wednesday, April 20, PCG said Tengku Mahamad would also resign as an executive director of the company on April 30, 2011 and be appointed as an advisor to the president/CEO.

Dr Abd Hapiz is former managing director of DuPont Malaysia Sdn Bhd and regional director for Asia Pacific Glass Laminating Solution.

PCG said Dr Abd Hapiz was a seasoned professional with PhD in Organic Chemistry and had strong international credentials, background in the chemical industry with multinational firms and experience in managing large organisations.

'Dr Abd Hapiz brings with him more than 25 years of technical, marketing and business development experience in the chemical manufacturing industry.

'With his''chemical industry knowledge and broad experience, PCG is confident that Dr Abd Hapiz will be able to provide leadership and continue to drive the Group's business strategies and accelerates the Group's growth in petrochemicals business,' it said.

Dr Abd Hapiz is currently the chairman of Chemical Council of Malaysia and executive council member of International Chamber of Commerce Malaysia.
