Tenaga's Che Khalib says should have more non-govt ownership of shares

KUALA LUMPUR: TENAGA NASIONAL BHD []'s president and chief executive officer Datuk Seri Che Khalib Mohamad Noh says the government's equity in government-linked companies should be reduced to allow more public and private participation in equity ownership.

He said on Wednesday, Sept 22, this was in line with international practices.

'I don't think the government needs to hold that much shares in Tenaga,' he said at a Hari Raya lunch organised by the power giant.

Khazanah Nasional Bhd, the government's investment arm, holds 35.65% stake or 1.55 billion shares of Tenaga Nasional.

The Employees Provident Fund Board is the second largest shareholder with 14.75% or 641.96 million shares while Skim Amanah Saham owns 9.47% or 412.34 million shares.
