HDBSVR: FBM KLCI may give up part of Friday?s gains

KUALA LUMPUR: Hwang DBS Vickers Research said on Monday, Aug 16 the benchmark FBM KLCI will probably give back some of the 11-index points gain made on Friday.

'Still, any pullback is expected to be quite mild after the bellwether staged a swift recovery from a low of 1,342 last Thursday,' it said. This follows a moderate drop on Wall Street last Friday with key U.S. equity indices slipping between 0.2% and 0.8%. Essentially, sentiment was weighed by the same old concerns of a possible slowdown in the world's largest economy.

HDSVR said the focus will be on Berjaya Retail ' the operator of 7-Eleven and Singer retail chain ' which will be listed on the Main Market.

Another Berjaya-related company ' Berjaya Corp ' could also attract interest following a media report saying that it is on the verge of disposing its stockbroking arm to a Singapore-based broker.

''

'And this piece of news may in turn spur risk-taking investors to trade on other listed stockbroking counters amid the possibilities of merger & acquisition talks,' it said.
