#Flash* Pharmaniaga looks to new markets, products for growth

PUCHONG: PHARMANIAGA BHD [] plans on leveraging on new markets and product development to drive its growth, says managing director Mohamad Abdullah.

Speaking to reporters and analysts at a fund analyst briefing here on Tuesday, Aug 17, he said going forward, Pharmaniaga has plans to become a world-class Small-Volume Injectables (SVI) Fill and Finish Contract Manufacturing Organisation (CMO) as well as develop another 124 new products over the next five years.

The company has plans to obtain its first product licence for its SVI plant in December 2010 and hopes to begin commercial production by January 2011.

He also said he expected the local pharmaceutical industry to continue to grow at an average of 8% to 10% annually, and that Pharmaniaga would focus on being first-to-market with its products.

He added because of the competitive nature of the pharmaceutical industry, the company would have to keep an eye on cost efficiencies as it was also competing with players from overseas such as India and Myanmar especially in the generics market.
