KUALA LUMPUR: Bursa Malaysia has appointed Uday Jayaram, who is the chairman of the FTSE-Bursa Malaysia Index Advisory Committee, as its global head of securities market with effect from Monday, Aug 9.
It said Uday's responsibility would be to develop the exchange's business strategies for the equities market as well as leading product innovation and development.
The move is to position Bursa Malaysia as an investment and listing destination of choice. His expertise and his strong global experience with global institutions will benefit the exchange greatly.
Uday, who has over 15 years of experience from the financial and investment services, was formerly head of equities at Macquarie Capital Securities and was instrumental in establishing Macquarie's broking presence in Malaysia.
"As one of the key international financial players in the country, Uday has actively encouraged capital inflows into the Malaysian equities market," said Bursa Malaysia.
He also previously served as head of research in ING Barings, building research expertise across various key sectors in the investment industry.
He was also attached to several financial firms such as CIMB and Deutsche Morgan Grenfell, gaining experience in investment banking. Uday qualified as a chartered accountant whilst working with Ernst & Young London in the early days of his career.
Uday received a Bachelor's degree in accounting and finance from the London School of Economics.
