FBM KLCI dips below 1,560-level at close

KUALA LUMPUR: The FBM KLCI dipped below the 1,560-point level on Monday, June 20 to close lower on Monday in line with the negative sentiment at global markets after Euro zone finance ministers delayed a final decision on extending emergency loans to Greece.

The FBM KLCI slipped 4.24 points to 1,559.19 at the close, weighed by losses at banking and PLANTATION [] stocks.

Losers beat gainers by 484 to 290, while 304 counters traded unchanged. Volume was 849.81 million shares valued at RM1.41 billion.

At the regional markets, the Shanghai Composite Index fell 0.82% to 2,621.25, Taiwan's Taiex lost 1.22% to 8,530.68, South Korea's Kospi was down 0.60% to 2,019.65 and Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index shed 0.44% to 21,599.51.

Meanwhile, Singapore's Straits Times Index added 0.28% to 3,013.60 and Japan's Nikkei 225 gave up its earlier gains to be up 0.03% to 9,354.32.

Euro zone finance ministers at the weekend postponed a final decision on extending a further 12 billion euros in emergency loans to Greece, ratcheting up pressure on Athens to first impose harsh austerity measures.

On Bursa Malaysia, KLK fell 28 sen to RM22.10, Batu Kawan lost 22 sen to RM16.82, NSOP nine sen to RM5.32, Kulim eight sen to RM3.60, SOP five sen to RM3.89 and IOI Corp fell two sen to RM5.28.

Among banking stocks, RHB Capital fell 19 sen to RM9.56, Maybank down 17 sen to RM8.83, whiel CIMB and Hong Leong Bank fell six sen each to RM8.49 and RM13.30.

Other decliners included Nestle and Shell that fell 20 sen each to RM48 and RM10.50, while MMHE which joined the FBM KLCI today also fell 20 sen to RM8.46.

Ingenuity Solutions was the most actively traded counter with 36.2 million shares done. The stock was unchanged at 10.5 sen.

Other actives included Talam, DBE Gurney, Axiata, Asia Media, Compugates, Focus and Sime Darby.

Among the gainers, DiGi rose 42 sen to RM29, HLFG 36 sen to RM13, Malayan Flour Mills 27 sen to RM7.31, Panasonic 20 sen to RM24.50, PPB 18 sen to RM17, Milux 16 sen to RM1.26, Fima Corp 15 sen to RM6.34, while United Plantations added 14 sen to RM19.98.
