KUALA LUMPUR: KULIM (M) BHD [] expects its PLANTATION []s and food and restaurants business to underpin its growth after the group's net profit jumped nearly 140% to RM276.8 million in the first quarter ended March 31, 2011.
Its chairman Kamaruzzaman Abu Kassim said on Thursday, June 23 that in terms of operating profit, plantations would continue to be the main contributor at 78%, followed by the food and restaurants and other ventures.
He said Kulim would continue with its two-pronged strategy of organic growth and increasing oil yields for the plantation sector as edible oil consumption continues to grow.
As for the food and restaurants, he said Kulim was looking at economic and acquisitions, both locally and overseas,'' to boost growth.
Kamaruzzaman said an estimated 60 restaurants would undergo image enhancement to improve the customers' experience, while new and improved products would be developed.
