Japanese stocks skid as quake damage weighs

TOKYO: Japanese stocks fell early Monday, March 14 as markets reacted to realization of the full scope of Friday's disaster and fears of that nuclear radiation could compound the tragedy.

More than 20 minutes into Monday's trading in Tokyo had the Nikkei Stock Average through the 10,000 level with a 5.6% fall to 9,679.27 with some blue chips still ask-only.

The Topix was down 6.9% at 852.27. The selloff was broad, touching all sectors, with many majors down by more than 10%. Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd. - MarketWatch
