Nikkei up 1.6 pct, climbs further above 16-mth low

TOKYO: Japan's Nikkei average rose 1.6 percent on Thursday, Sept 2 moving further away from a 16-month low touched the previous day, after U.S. and Chinese manufacturing data eased investor worries about the global economy.

The benchmark Nikkei gained 142.60 points to 9,069.62. It rose 1.2 percent on Wednesday to 8,927.02, after falling as low as 8,796.45, its lowest since April 2009.

The broader Topix added 1.3 percent to 822.26. - Reuters
