Nikkei edges up after big fall, buoyed by exporters

TOKYO: Japan's Nikkei average edged up 0.4 percent on Wednesday, Sept 1 buoyed by exporters after the benchmark had its worst one-day fall in three months the day before, although the yen's continuing strength was likely to cap further gains.

Hitachi Ltd rose 0.6 percent after sources familiar with the matter said the company is planning an initial public offering of its hard-drive unit in the United States, possibly by the year-end.

The benchmark Nikkei rose 30.69 points to 8,855.41, while the broader Topix edged up 0.1 percent to 805.37. - Reuters
