Nikkei dips below 10,000 as Italy woes hurt banks

TOKYO: The Nikkei average fell for a second straight day on Tuesday, dipping below support at 10,000 on mounting concerns that euro zone debt woes may soon spread to Italy and worries over a stalemate in U.S. budget talks, with financials leading losses again.

The benchmark Nikkei average opened down 1.3 percent at 9,943.32 on Tuesday, while the broader Topix shed 1.3 percent to 859.14. ' Reuters
