3M Malaysia reaffirms commitment to partner SMEs

KUALA LUMPUR: 3M Malaysia Sdn Bhd has reaffirmed its commitment to partner the small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in product development and move up the value chain and compete globally.

It said on Monday, May 16 its customer innovation centre (CIC) launched in October 2010, provided a platform for SMEs to grow their business with 3M's existing product research and development.

'The CIC will house local researchers and technicians to create innovative products. With access to over 7,000 3M engineers and technicians around the world, the sky is the limit,' it said in a statement.

3M Malaysia's optimism is underpinned by its business diversity with over 45 core TECHNOLOGY [] platforms that they leverage on a daily basis to solve customer's problems and basically make things work for them.

It said each product is developed by uniquely combining different technology through science and engineers collaborating to make it work for customers.

3M Malaysia managing director Michael Wu said: 'Today, every company in the market claims to be an innovative company. But when the invention does not make any practical sense for customers, it is an invention without a purpose.

'For 3M, we believe that innovation must be linked to invention. And this invention must be a practical solution for our customers. If our product or innovation is able to solve customer's problem, that is innovation.'
