KUALA LUMPUR: The FBM KLCI closed marginally higher on Monday, April 4 in line with the generally cautious sentiment at most key regional markets.
The FBM KLCI closed 0.01% or 0.10 point higher at 1,555.48. ''The index had earlier risen to its intra-day high of 1,565.04.
Gainers led losers by 486 to 370, while 282 counters traded unchanged. Volume was 1.69 billion shares valued at RM2.24 billion.
At the regional markets, Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index jumped 1.46% to 24,150.58, Japan's Nikkei 225 rose 0.11% to 9,718.89, Singapore's Straits Times Index rose 0.65% to 3,140.62 while South Korea's Kospi fell 0.24% to 2,115.87.
The Shanghai Composite Index will remain closed on April 4 and 5 to observe the Tomb Sweeping Day, and would re-open on Wednesday, April 6.'' Taiwan's Taiex was also closed today.
Among the top gainers on Bursa Malaysia, Nestle rose 38 sen to RM47.78, Panasonic 30 sen to RM22, MNRB 26 sen to RM2.88, United PLANTATION []s 22 sen to RM17.52, Shell and Esso added 16 sen each to RM10.96 and RM4.20, while Warisan and GAB gained 15 sen each to RM2.60 and RM9.80.
Coastal Contracts surged 33 sen to RM3.41 after the Edge Weekly reported that Coastal was eyeing a strategic shareholder to diversify into the fabrication business.
OSK Research maintained its Buy call on Coastal with a fair value of RM4.85, and said the news was not only within its expectation, but in fact it had envisaged something even bigger for the company.
DBE Gurney was the most actively traded counter with 83.23 million shares done. The stock shed half a sen to 12.5 sen.
Other actives included Perisai, HWGB, Kurnia Asia, ECM Libra, Daya Materials, Kencana, Benalec and Digistar.
Decliners included Sungei Bagan, Inno Bio, JobStreet, LPI Capital, Notion, Hap Seng, Genting, Sarawak Plantations and Kossan.
