Boustead does not rule out M&As in oil and gas sector

KUALA LUMPUR: BOUSTEAD HOLDINGS BHD [] does not rule out any new M&As, including the acquisition of any players in the oil and gas sector, if there were opportunities available at the price and terms acceptable to the conglomerate.

'We wish to clarify that the company is constantly exploring growth opportunities including mergers and acquisitions that will allow the company to enhance its shareholders value,' it said on Monday, April 4.

The company will make an announcement to Bursa Malaysia Securities Berhad should there be any new developments in due course," Boustead said, referring to a report by the Edge weekly entitled 'Boustead, LTAT eyeing majority stake in Esso M'sia'.

The Edge weekly had reported on April 4 that Boustead and its parent company Lembaga Tabung Angkatan Tentera (LTAT) were believed to eyeing Exxonmobil International Holdings Inc's 65% stake in ESSO MALAYSIA BHD [].

Citing sources, the report said Exxonmobil's stake was up for sale, as the oil major was looking to exit its operations in Malaysia, given the relatively low margins here and its preference to focus on explorations and production of oil.
