KUALA LUMPUR: Timber-related stocks advanced on Wednesday, March 23 on continuing hopes of an increase in demand when re-CONSTRUCTION [] begins in Japan following the massive earthquake there a fortnight ago.
At 10.55am, Ta Ann added 11 sen to RM6.01, Jaya Tiasa rose 10 sen to RM5.49, WTK was up three sen to RM1.71 while Leweko gained 1.5 sen to 19 sen.
AmResearch last week said between 35% and 40% of Japan's plywood production had either been completely destroyed or significantly damaged in the Japan disaster.
It also said local timber companies, including Ta Ann and Jaya Tiasa, will increase plywood production after winning orders from Japan to help with the country's reconstruction following its earthquake and tsunami.
