KUALA LUMPUR:'' The FBM KLCI gave up some of its gains at mid-day on Monday, Dec 13 but managed to remain in positive territory, supported by gains in PLANTATION [] stocks and heavyweight Tenaga.
Plantation stocks advanced as crude palm oil futures for the third month delivery jumped RM42'' to RM3,625 per tonne.
On Bursa Malaysia, the 30-stock FBM KLCI edged up 0.04% or 0.54 point to 1,507.82. Turnover was 598.55 million shares valued at RM718.63 million. Gainers led losers by 344 to 300, while 267 counters traded unchanged.
The ringgit strengthened 0.02% to 3.1340 versus the US dollar, gold added 45 cents per troy ounce to US$1,386.45 and crude oil rose 30 cents per barrel to US$88.09.
Regional markets were mostly up, led by the Shanghai Composite Index, partly on relief that China's central bank raised bank reserve requirements instead of benchmark interest rates.
Chinese inflation data released on Saturday exceeded forecasts, reaching a 28-month high and showing signs of spreading beyond food prices, putting pressure on the government to take stronger steps to tame prices, according to Reuters.
The lingering possibility of an imminent interest rate rise is likely to keep a lid on Chinese stock market gains, it said.
At the regional markets, the Shanghai Composite Index rose 1.15% to 2,873.84, Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index was up 0.36% to 23,245.85, Japan's Nikkei 225 added 0.32% to 10,244.60, Taiwan's Taiex rose 0.40% to 8,754.08, South Korea's Kospi up 0.04% to 1,987.03 while Singapore's Straits Times Index shed 0.09^% to 3,182.55.
Among the gainers, Genting Plantations added 15 sen to RM8.61, KLK six sen to RM21.56, IOI Corp two sen to RM5.74 and Batu Kawan eight sen to RM17.10. Kulim gained 18 sen to RM12.58 after declaring the special dividends.
BAT added 46 sen to RM46.50, Amway 28 sen to RM8.40, MBM Resources'' 20 sen to RM3.43, MTD Capital and Tradewinds rose 16 sen each to RM8 and RM5.47 and MISC 11 sen to RM8.25.
Among the index-linked stocks Tenaga added six sen to RM8.66, MMC Corp rose 13 sen to RM2.90. Genting Malaysia rose five sen to RM3.32
PJ Development's warrants that were listed today jumped 25.5 sen to 27.5 sen with 12.5 million units traded.
Olympia was the most actively traded counter with 46.8 million shares done. The stock gained 1.5 sen to 30.5 sen. Olympia announced to Bursa Malaysia during the midday break that it was interested to acquire all the equity shares in Pan Malaysian Pools Sdn Bhd from Tanjong plc.
Other actives included DRB-Hicom shares and warrants, Petra Perdana's shares and warrants, Petronas Chemicals, Karambunai, KUB and Landmarks.
Decliners this morning included Kwantas, CIMB, DKSH, QSR, F&N and Gopeng.
