KUALA LUMPUR: DRB-HICOM BHD [] and Tatarstan's KAMAZ Group will look into the possibility of manufacturing and assembling selected KAMAZ heavy duty trucks for the Malaysian and Asean markets.
DRB-Hicom group managing director Datuk Seri Khamil Jamil said on Wednesday, Dec 15 an MoU would enable both parties prepare the feasibility and a detailed costing study as well as the models of KAMAZ truck suitable for this region.
Khamil signed an MoU on behalf of DRB-Hicom on Tuesday while the KAMAZ group was represented by its deputy general director Evgeny P. Pronin. The signing ceremony was witnessed by the President of the Republic of Tatarstan, Rustam Minnikhanov and the Russian Ambassador to Malaysia Lyudmilla Vorobyera.
KAMAZ Group is the largest automobile corporation of the Russian Federation.'' OJSC KAMAZ ranks 13th among the world's top heavy truck manufacturers and is number eight among the world's diesel engine producers.
DRB-HICOM group director of automotive Datuk Nik Hamdam Nik Hassan said the commercial vehicle market has been showing positive growth trend.
He said there was a demand for good quality durable trucks not only in the Malaysian market but also in the right-hand drive market like Indonesia and Thailand.
'It is feasible both parties are optimistic of starting production in the next eight to 12 months,' he said.
