KUALA LUMPUR: Four major foreign banks ' HSBC Bank Malaysia Bhd, OCBC Bank (Malaysia) Bhd, United Overseas Bank (UOB) (Malaysia) Bhd and Standard Chartered Bank Malaysia Bhd ' intend to sign agreements with Malaysian Electronic Payment System Sdn Bhd (MEPS) next year.
The deal would link the banks to the MEPS service, allowing them to provide their customers with the convenience of making interbank cash withdrawals and balance enquiries at more than 10,000 automated teller machines (ATM) nationwide.
"The joint effort to link up with the MEPS Shared ATM Network is developed in line with the banks' aim to provide best-in-class service to our customers and to enhance customer satisfaction," a joint statement from the banks said here on Monday, Dec 27.
The four banks will launch the service individually over time as soon as their respective systems are fully operational.
Since the inception of MEPS in 1997, it has been an integral part of the Malaysian financial landscape through its provision of interbank e-payments services for consumers.
To date, there are 16 banks in the MEPS Shared ATM Network. ' Bernama
