Losses for 6th straight day

KUALA LUMPUR: The FBM KLCI fell for the sixth day on Monday, July 5 amidst lacklustre trading on Bursa Malaysia, weighed down by losses by Sime Darby, Genting, DiGi and CIMB.

At 12.30pm, the FBM KLCI shed 3.49 points to 1,303.95. Losers led gainers by 298 to 145, while 219 counters were traded unchanged. Volume was 189.52 million shares valued at RM227.22 million.

Crude oil rose 48 cents per barrel to US$72.62, gold jumped US$2.05 per ounce to US$1,213.65 while crude palm oil for the third month delivery fell RM11 per tonne to RM2,324.

Regional markets, meanwhile, were mixed. Japan's Nikkei 225 edged up 0.69% to 9,267.62, Taiwan's Taiex Index up 1.47% to 7,438.42, and the South Korean Kospi up 0.18% to 1,674.85.

The Shanghai Composite Index fell 1.62% to 2,344.23, Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index lost 0.33% to 19,840.16 and Singapore's Straits Times Index shed 0.14% to 2,840.29.

Among the major decliners, Genting lost 10 sen to RM7.15 while Genting Malaysia fell two sen to RM2.60 after the latter proposed to acquire Genting Singapore's under-performing UK operations, which analysts said was at the higher-end of peers' valuation.

Sime Darby fell nine sen to RM7.69, DiGi down 10 sen to 22.90, Hong Leong Financial Group fell 19 sen to RM8.11, BAT lost 24 sen to RM43.96 while CIMB and Petronas Gas fell four sen each to RM7 and RM9.84.

Berjaya Sports Toto fell two sen to RM4.10 while MPHB lost four sen to RM1.95. Other decliners included Proton, Nestle, Lafarge and Edaran.


Among the gainers, LPI Capital jumped 68 sen to RM16, HELP and Titan up 16 sen each to RM3.39 and RM1.61 while KFCH gained 10 sen to RM10.10.

Other gainers included Tomypak, Sungei Bagan, Kossan and Mesiniaga.

Bina Puri Holdings rose on the The Edge weekly report that its consortium secured part of the low cost carrier terminal (LCCT). Bina Puri was up six sen to RM1.16 with 290,100 shares done.

The Edge weekly reported the consortium is said to have secured the third package of Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd's new LCCT worth close to RM1 billion.

Sinotop rights shares were actively traded, down 1.5 sen to three sen with 25.44 million units done. Other actives included Talam, Carotech, Kenmark, IRCB, Titan and SAAG.
