FBM KLCI opens on cautious note

KUALA LUMPUR: Trading on Bursa Malaysia opened on a cautious note on Wednesday, July 7 in line with key regional markets after buying eased off at Wall Street overnight on weak economic data.

According to Reuters, the major indices ended a five-day string of losses after the S&P 500 closed at a 10-month low last Friday. However, investors used the morning's gains as an opportunity to sell rather than establish new long positions.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 57.14 points, or 0.59%, at 9,743.62 points. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index was up 5.48 points, or 0.54%, at 1,028.06 points. The Nasdaq Composite Index was up 2.09 points, or 0.10%, at 2,093.88 points.

On Bursa Malaysia, the FBM KLCI shed 0.88 of a point to 1,306.20 points at 9.05am, dragged by losses including at Maxis, Genting and Genting Malaysia.

Maxis fell six sen to RM5.27, Genting shed five sen to RM7.29, Genting Malaysia one sen to RM2.61 and Berjaya Corp two sen to RM1.19.

Other early decliners included KLCCP, Tanjung Offshore and Unisem.

Among the early gainers were Tomypak, APM Automotive, QSR Brands, KPJ, IJM Corp and Faber.
