KUALA LUMPUR: The Consumer Price Index (CPI) for July rose 3.4% year-on-year in July to 103.4 from 100.0 a year ago, and was up 0.2% month-on-month, due mainly to increases in the food & non-alcoholic beverages and non-food indices.
Year-to-date in July, the index increased by 3.1% to 102.7 compared with that of 99.6 in the same period last year.
In a statement Wednesday, Aug 17, the Department of Statistics said the index for food & non-alcoholic beverages and non-food for the month of July showed increases of 4.9% and 2.7% respectively as compared to the same month in 2010.
For the period January to July 2011, the index for food & non-alcoholic beverages and non-food increased by 4.6% and 2.5% respectively, it said.
Compared to the previous month, the index for food & non-alcoholic beverages and non-food also recorded increases by 0.4% and 0.1% respectively, it said.
