KUALA LUMPUR: V.S. Industry Bhd (VSI) unit V.S. Plus Sdn Bhd has been appointed by US-based Keurig Incorporated (Keurig) as an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) partner to produce Keurig's Single-Cup coffee brewers.
In a statement Monday, May 9, VSI said V.S. Plus would begin manufacturing Keurig branded single-cup brewers as well as some system-related accessories at a new plant that was acquired in October 2010 for RM12.3 million.
Keurig is a wholly-owned subsidiary of NASDAQ-listed Green Mountain Coffee Roasters, Inc., a company involved in specialty coffee and coffeemakers in the US.
VSI said the production was scheduled to commence late 2011, and that it expects the appointment to contribute positively to the Group in the financial year ending 31 July 2012.
VSI managing director Gan Sem Yam said the appointment reinforced VSI's positioning as a leading EMS player in the consumer electronics sector.
'We are glad that Keurig has entrusted VSI to produce its innovative line of coffee brewers.
'Under the agreement, VSI would produce both coffee brewers and accessories for Keurig for sale in North America. In this way, VSI hopes to bring value as a manufacturing outsource partner, while Keurig would focus on developing new products and markets,' said Gan.
