Banks, plantations lift FBM KLCI higher

KUALA LUMPUR: The FBM KLCI closed higher on Tuesday, May 10, lifted by gains including at banking and index-linked PLANTATION [] stocks.

The 30-stock index advanced 3.96 points to 1,523.37.

Gainers edged losers by 359 to 344, while 330 counters traded unchanged. Volume was 847.99 million shares valued at RM1.15 billion.

Among the major gainers, HLFG was up 36 sen to RM11.14, Hong Leong Bank 30 sen to RM11.50, Maybank five sen to RM8.70, CIMB and RHB Capital four sen each to RM8.19 and RM8.74, while Public Bank and Genting added two sen each to RM13.10 and RM11.18.

Among plantations, KLK was up six sen to RM21.60 while IOI Corp and Sime Darby added four sen each to RM5.30 and RM8.84.

Batu Kawan rose 48 sen to RM15.98; BAT added 40 sen to RM48, Nestle 30 sen ''to RM47.42, Malaysia Smelting Corp 28 sen to RM4.66, HPI 27 sen to RM3.30, Esso 22 sen to RM4.38, Aeon 20 sen to RM6.25 and Lebar Daun 19 sen to RM1.

Newly-listed Mclean Technologies was the most actively traded counter. Its shares rose 1.5 sen to 53.5 sen with68.1 million shares traded while its warrants added 18 sen to 18.5 sen with 24.1 million units done.

Other actives included Ramunia, PJI, DBE Gurney, GSB, Hubline, Digistar and Talam.

F&N was the top loser and fell 62 sen to RM19.12; Southern Acids lost 24 sen to EM2.32, DiGi 18 sen to RM29.42, Ta Ann 15 sen to 6.33, Sui Wah 11 sen to RM1.37, Cypark and PPB 10 sen each to RM2.69 and RM16.60, while Dutch Lady fell eight sen to RM17.30.

At the regional markets, China's main stock index rose on Tuesday, lifted by bargain-hunting in bank shares, but trading was limited as investors remained cautious ahead of key economic data due the following day, according to Reuters.

The Shanghai Composite Index rose 0.63% to 2,890.63, Singapore's Straits Times Index added 0.62% to 3,156.26, Japan's Nikkei 225 added 0.25% to 9,818.76 while Taiwan's Taiex slipped 0.14% to 9,023.28.

The Hong Kong and South Korea stock exchanges were closed for a public holiday to commemorate the birthday of Buddha.
