KUALA LUMPUR: The manufacturing sector created more jobs in March, 2011 with total employment at 1.028 million workers, an increase of 9,366 persons or 0.9% compared with February.
'Year- on- year, the number of workers employed also increased by 71,206 persons or 7.4%, as compared to 956,879 persons in March 2010,' the Statistics Department said on Wednesday, May 11.
It said total employees in February 2011 was a revised positive 7.0% year-on-year to record 1,018,719 workers,'
In terms of sales value, the manufacturing sector in March rose 14.1% (RM6.5 billion) to record RM52.7 billion compared to RM46.2 billion a year ago.
Month-on-month, the sales value also increased by 19.1% or RM8.4 billion from February. The sales value in February 2011 was a revised positive 10.0% on-year to record RM44.2 billion.
