KUALA LUMPUR: Share prices on Bursa Malaysia remained mixed at midday Wednesday, May 25, but continuous gains in selected bluechips helped lift the key index, a dealer said.
At 12.30pm, the FBM KLCI added 2.81 points to 1,534.93 as MALAYAN BANKING BHD [] (Maybank), CIMB, Petronas Chemicals and Sime Darby continued to record gains, after an earlier uneven performance. Trading volume stood at 375.303 million shares valued at RM590.106 million but losers continued to outpace gainers by 334 to 253.
Maybank and CIMB added four sen each to RM8.80 and RM8.27 respectively. Petronas Chemicals rose three sen to RM7.11, while Sime Darby was one sen higher at RM9.09. Petronas Dagangan continued to rise, adding 30 sen for RM15.60, after posting a pre-tax profit of RM1.21 billion for its financial year ended March 31, 2011.
The dealer said the local bourse is slowly picking up steam as selected heavyweights like Maybank, Tenaga Nasional and IOI Corp, as well as lower liners, witnessed good buying after the recent sell-off.
The Finance Index rose 22.76 points to 14,298.90 and the INDUSTRIAL INDEX [] went up 9.30 points to 2,715.92. The PLANTATION [] Index lost 2.83 points to 7,663.57.
The FTSE Bursa Malaysia Emas Index gained 6.86 points to 10,574.10 but the FTSE Bursa Malaysia Mid 70 Index dropped 12.4 points to 11,451.32. The FTSE Bursa Malaysia Ace Index declined 18.75 points to 4,287.49.
For the actives, Jotech added half-a-sen to 15 sen, while M-Mode was 2.5 lower at 24 sen. Asia Media was half-a-sen higher at 26.5 sen and Efficient E-Solutions gained one sen to 21.5 sen.
Among the heavyweights, Maxis and Plus Expressways were flat at RM5.40 and RM4.49 respectively, while Axiata lost two sen to RM4.94 and MISC added four sen to RM6.73. ' Bernama
