KUCHING: Police have so far approved 1,100 ceramah permits to political parties contesting in the 10th Sarawak state election, said Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Mohmad Salleh.
Of the total, 250 permits were issued within the last 24 hours, he said at a media conference at the Sarawak Police Contingent Headquarters, here.
Mohmad again reminded the contesting parties to maintain proper ethics and not to touch on racial sensitivities to ensure peace throughout the election process.
"The police will not compromise on any activities that have seditious or provocative elements.
"Our country has a plural society, so issues that can cause dissatisfaction must be given proper attention to ensure harmony and mutual respect between the races," he said.
Mohmad said the ballot papers for police personnel voting by post had also been distributed to the voting centres concerned yesterday. - Bernama
