February industrial output up 5pct on yr, down 7.2pct on month

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia's industrial production output rose 5.0% in February from a year ago but fell 7% from January, the Statistics Department said.

The department said on Monday, April 11 the increase in February 2011 was due to the increases in manufacturing (7.9%) and electricity (0.7%). However, the index of mining posted a decrease of 0.7%.

It said the IPI in January 2011 was revised 0.5% on-year.

'Month-on-month, the IPI decreased 7.2%. The cumulative index for the period of January-February 2011 increased 2.6% as compared with the same period of 2010,' it said.
