Public Bank's CampuBank Securities gets licence

KUALA LUMPUR: PUBLIC BANK BHD []'s (PBB) unit Cambodian Public Bank Plc (CampuBank) has established a wholly-owned subsidiary in Cambodia, namely CampuBank Securities Plc (CampuBank Securities).

CampuBank Securities has obtained a securities company licence from the Securities and Exchange Commission of Cambodia, which will enable it to carry out securities underwriting business, securities dealing business, securities brokerage business and investment advisory business in Cambodia.

In a filing to Bursa Malaysia on Oct 25, Public Bank said the issued and paid-up capital of CampuBank Securities was equivalent to approximately RM31.1 million.

It said CampuBank Securities was established to support and participate in the Cambodian government's initiatives to develop a capital market, thus enhancing the Public Bank's role in the financial services industry in Cambodia.

"With its licence, CampuBank Securities will be able to provide share broking and corporate finance related services, and this will increase the suite of products available to the customers of Campu Bank.

"Campu Bank, which carries out commercial banking business in Cambodia since May 1992, currently has 20 branches strategically located in the country," said Public Bank.

It said CampuBank Securities was expected to contribute positively to the earnings of the Public Bank group in the future.
