KUALA LUMPUR: The manufacturing sector recorded RM44.7 billion in sales value, which was an increase of 8.4% or RM3.5 billion from the RM41.2 billion a year ago following higher sales value generated by five major industries, according to the Statistics Department.
It said on Monday, Jan 10 that manufacturing sales however declined by 2.8% or RM1.3 billion from October which recorded a revised growth of 3% on-year at RM46 billion.
The department said the year-on-year increase in sales value in November was generated by the growth in the sales value of 78 industries (67.3%) out of 116 industries covered in the survey.
It said the five major industries which recorded significant increase in sales value were the manufacture of refined petroleum products (33.7%), manufacture of other basic industrial chemicals except fertilisers and nitrogen compounds (39.0%), rubber remilling and latex processing (60.1%).
The others the manufacture of television and radio receivers, sounds and associated goods (11.2%), and manufacture of plastics in primary forms and of synthetic rubber (37.9%).
The Statistics Department said the number of workers in the manufacturing sector increased by 0.3% to 996,530 in November from October.
When compared to a year ago, the number of workers increased by 5.9% or 55,482 persons from 941,048 in November 2009.
In terms of salaries and wages paid out in November last year, the quantum was RM2.233 billion, up 0.4% or RM8.40 million from the RM2.224 billion in October. When compared with November 2009, the wage bill increased by 10.8% or RM216.8 million.
