KUALA LUMPUR: The Employees Provident Fund (EPF) recorded investment income of RM5.93 billion for the second quarter ended June 30, 2010, with equities accounting for RM2.72 billion.
It said on Tuesday, Sept 7 the stronger 2Q performance was on the back of Malaysia's robust economic growth in the first half of the year.
In its unaudited results for 2Q, the EPF said the investment income was 23.47% above the RM4.80 billion in 2Q, 2009.
Equities accounted for RM2.72 billion or a 56.55% increase in returns compared to RM1.74 billion in 2QFY09. Loans and bonds was the second largest contributor to the EPF's investment income at RM1.90 billion. This was 4.72% above the RM1.81 billion in 2QFY09.
Investments in Malaysian Government Securities contributed an income of RM1.10 billion in Q2 2010 vs RM1.11 billion a year ago.
Investment income derived from money market instruments jumped 94.23% to contribute RM183.10 million versus RM94.27 million in 2QFY09, attributable to the higher asset holdings and the raising of interest rates. EPF's income derived from PROPERTIES [] rose 9.37% on-year to RM22.76 million.
