Nikkei rises, helped by yen, US retail figures

TOKYO: The Nikkei stock average rose on Wednesday, helped by a weaker yen and U.S. retail sales figures that were not as bad as expected, while resource-related stocks gained on rising commodity prices.

The benchmark Nikkei rose 0.5 percent to 9,593.88 and the broader Topix gained 0.4 percent to 826.21. ' Reuters
