BEIJING: China's consumer price inflation accelerated to a 34-month high of 5.5 percent in the year to May from 5.3 percent in April, the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) said on Tuesday, June 14.
China's industrial output in May beat market expectations with a 13.3 percent from a year ago, compared with April's 13.4 percent expansion.
Economists polled by Reuters had forecast a 5.4 percent rise in the consumer price index and a 13.2 percent increase in industrial output.

Month-on-month figures for industrial output, retail sales and fixed asset investment are seasonally adjusted.
The consumer price index rose 5.5 percent in May from the previous month, after a 0.1 percent month-on-month rise in April. This figure is not seasonally adjusted.
Giving a more detailed breakdown of CPI, the NBS said food prices rose 11.7 percent in the year to May, with non-food prices 2.9 percent.
In month-on-month terms, food prices fell 0.3 percent, while non-food prices were up 0.2 percent.
