FBM KLCI notches biggest single day gain since March 31

KUALA LUMPUR: The FBM KLCI closed 1% higher on Tuesday, May 31, the biggest single day gain the index has made since March 31 this year.

At 5pm, the FBM KLCI was up 15.45 points to 1,558.29, off its intra-day high of 1,566.29, lifted by gains including at key blue chips including Tenaga and banking stocks.

Gainers led losers by 473 to 346, while 285 counters traded unchanged. Volume was 1.3 billion shares valued at RM4.28 billion.

Among the gainers, BAT rose 84 sen to RM46.88, Malayan Flour Mills 78 sen to RM8.44, Tenaga 59 sen to RM7.11, APM Automotive 38 sen to RM5.20, MMHE 28 sen to RM7.75, Faber 27 sen to RM2.11, DiGi 26 sen to RM28.5, Kulim 24 sen to RM3.67 and Petronas Chemicals 13 sen to RM7.24.

Among the banking stocks, Hong Leong Bank gained 30 sen to RM12.30, HLFG 28 sen to RM11.90, CIMB 11 sen to RM8.37 and Maybank 7 sen to RM8.19.

Decliners were led by Tradewinds that fell 87 sen to RM9.33; PPB lost 56 sen to RM17.40, Panasonic 38 sen to RM23.82, Lafarge Malayan Cement 30 sen to RM7.19, Esso 28 sen to RM5.08, Nestle 22 sen to RM47.78, Perstima 20 sen to RM4.10, MAHB 19 sen to RM6.37 and BRDB 16 sen to RM1.86.

Actives today included Tenaga, UEM Land, CIMB, MAS, Berjaya Corp, MMHE, MAHB and Maybank.

At the regional markets, Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index surged 2.16% to 23,684.13, Japan's Nikkei 225 jumped 1.99% to 9,693.73, the Shanghai Composite Index rose 1.37% to 2,743.47, Taiwan's Taiex added 1.87% to 8,988.84, South Korea's Kospi gained 2.32% to 2,142.47 while Singapore's Straits Times Index was up 0.62% to 3,159.93.
