KUALA LUMPUR: There has been a 16% reduction in the total number of credit cards since the introduction of a service tax for the credit cards with the government collecting some RM275.5 million in tax revenue as at Sept this year.
Deputy Finance Minister Datuk Awang Adek Hussin told the Dewan Rakyat on Monday, Oct 11 there were some 9.1 million credit cards as at mid-2010, down 16% from the 10.8 million credit cards issued as at the end of 2009.
In reply to a question by Datuk Baharum Mohamed (Sekijang - BN), Awang Adek said there had also been a 20% reduction in the number of charge cards in circulation but did not provide the figures for charge cards.
