SUBANG: MALAYSIAN AIRLINE SYSTEM BHD [] has selected Pratt & Whitney to supply 34 engines worth RM2.2 billion (US$680 million) for its 17 new Airbus aircraft.
It said on Monday, July 19 the 15 passenger and two freighters will be powered by PW4170 Advantage70 engines.
MAS ordered up to 25 A330-300 and 4 A330-200F worth US$4.5 billion at list price which includes the cost of the engines. The aircraft which will be delivered from 2011 to 2015.
The national carrier added the new plans would serve the growing markets of South Asia, China, North Asia, Australia and Middle East. The airline has also ordered up to 55 B737-800s and six A380s.
MAS managing director and chief executive officer, Tengku Datuk Azmil Zahruddin said MAS was happy with the performance and support for the A330s and B747s aircraft engines.
"We are confident that we will enjoy even better engine performance and that Pratt & Whitney will continue to deliver the same level of support with the PW4170 engines," it said.
