Higher food prices drive CPI higher

KUALA LUMPUR:The inflation rate continued to advance, with the June consumer price index (CPI) up 1.7% from a year ago and up 0.2% from May, as food prices increased.

According to the Statistics Department, food & non-alcoholic beverages, which accounted for 31.4% of the CPI, rose 2.7% on-year.

The department said on Wednesday, July 21 the CPI for January to June increased by 1.4% to 113.3 from 111.7 in the previous corresponding period.
