#Flash* Vehicle trade body ups sales forecast to 570,000 units for 2010

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA) has raised its forecast for total vehicles sales in 2010 by 6.12% to 570,000 units after reporting 526,905 units sold in 2009.

The trade body said on Tuesday, July 20 it forecast passenger vehicle sales to continue to increase and estimated 581,000 units to be sold next year and 592,000 in 2012; 604,000'' in 2013 and 618,000 in 2014.

For the first half of 2010, it said vehicle sales rose to 301,077 compared with 251,305 units a year ago.

In June, vehicle sales increased to 54,005 units from the 45,245 units a year ago.

"Total new vehicles registered was 3,160 units or 6.2% higher than the previous month while year-on-year sales grew by 49,772 units or an expansion of 19.8%," it said.
