KUALA LUMPUR: Shell Malaysia had on Monday, March 28 started work on its RM810 million diesel processing unit at its Port Dickson refinery.
The unit will enable the refinery to vary its feedstock options, increase diesel production and improve its margin. It is one of the three Shell Malaysia projects under the Economic Transformation Programme with a combined capital investment of RM5.1 billion for 2011.
Shell Malaysia chairman Anuar Taib said the refinery's expansion reflected the multinational's continued confidence in the history, spanning almost 120 years.
'Malaysia is one of Shell's heartlands. We are one of the early investors in the country's oil and gas industry; the diesel processing unit is a demonstration of our continued investment,' he said at the ground breaking ceremony in Port Dickson.
Shell Refining Company (Federation of Malaya) Bhd owns and operates the refinery.
Two other Shell Malaysia's EPP investments in 2011 are the expansion of the Shell MDS wax plant in Bintulu and Gumusut Kakap deepwater offshore Sabah.
Shell Malaysia said during the CONSTRUCTION [] phase, the three projects would create about 1,600 jobs for local contractors.
