Perstima 3Q earnings fall 32pct on lower margins

KUALA LUMPUR: Perusahaan Sadur Timah (Malaysia) Bhd (Perstima) saw its third quarter earnings fall 32% to RM14.01 million from RM20.67 million a year ago due to lower profit margin.

It said on Wednesday, Jan 26 that revenue for the quarter ended Dec 31, 2010 rose to RM225.46 million from RM210.90 million. Earnings per share were 14.11 sen compared with 20.82 sen a year ago.

On its outlook, it said the 'group's operating environment to remain challenging and competitive due to greater presence of tinplate from non traditional sources,' it said.

For the quarter under review, the group recorded a profit before tax of RM19.6 million compared to RM26.3 million in the previous quarter. The lower profit was due to lower profit margin despite higher sales volume.
