KUALA LUMPUR: Vehicle sales in August are expected to exceed the 50,000 units sold in July as buyers rushed for deliveries in conjunction with the Hari Raya Aidilfitri season, says the Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA).
It said on Monday, Aug 22 the July vehicle sales fell 3,231 units to 50,252 units from 53,483 a year ago. However, the sales volume in July was 8,462 units or 20% higher than the previous month.
Year-to-date until July, the cumulative sales were 354,598 units or 2.01% when compared to 354,598 units sold in the previous corresponding period.
It said July sales were higher than the preceding month, adding the 'supply situation has improved'. Other factors were the festive season sales campaign and higher new Myvi sales.
In terms of sales in July, passenger vehicles accounted for 44,835 units while commercial vehicles saw 5,417 units sold.
The MAA data showed 53,453 units were produced in July, a 7.8% decline from the 58,004 units a year ago. Year-to-date, production slipped 7% to 326,852 units from 351,787 a year ago.
